Ryan Coons is a physicist, nuclear engineer, and sometimes karate instructor who tried to live by the law… but now he must… LIVE BY THE FIST! So, armed with the abrasiveness of five uncouth men, he champions the meek, the shy, the nerdy, against the evil forces of religion, neo-conservative politics, and manatees.

Coons graduated from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania with a B.S. in physics (minors in mathematics and political science). He subsequently earned M.S. degrees in physics and nuclear engineering from Miami University, and Purdue University, respectively. His research concentrated on the improvement and testing of an novel external cavity laser; the characterization of laser-produced plasmas for use as extreme ultraviolet light sources for next-generation semiconductor manufacturing; and plasma reheating as a scheme to improve the resolution of remote material detection sensors.

Coons is currently a research scientist at Purdue University. He as previously been an adjunct professor, a TA for physics labs, a tutor, a bartender, an autoworker, and a pizza deliveryman.

Coons is a dedicated and prolific hack writer. He once meticulously cataloged his dreams over an eight year period, a project which reached well over 160,000 words. He founded SuperFunAdventureTime in 2009.

In addition to physical science and writing, Coons has intensely trained in the martial arts for over ten years. He earned the rank of sandan (3^rd-degree black belt) in Goshinjustu Karatedo in 2010. He has also dabbled in judo, Shuri-ryu karatedo, and Wu-style Tai Chi Chu’an. He is currently a member of the Purdue Kendo Club.

Yellow Hat Guy’s Super Fun Adventure Bus provides a soapbox for Coons to analyize and hopefully cure the human condition.
